Our History
Sweetwater Utilities Board (SUB) was originally established as the Sweetwater Electric System on August 1, 1939. It began operations with just 10 full-time employees serving 935 electric customers. In 1969, SUB expanded by acquiring the water, wastewater, and natural gas departments from the City of Sweetwater, leading to a rebranding as the Board of Public Utilities. The name was officially changed to Sweetwater Utilities Board in 1978. Today, SUB proudly serves over 9,500 electric customers, 4,800 water customers, 2,300 wastewater customers, and 1,500 natural gas customers, continuing a legacy of excellence in public service.
